Classic Sound That Never Fails to Please

RangerSeriesBlack • Mar 26, 2011

'Kompozitsia I', is a 12 track, Classic Rock-Blues-Ethnic(Hebrew) Crossover album. Avi Rosenfeld, is a Artist who never fails to please the ear with his Interpretation and Arrangement of Classic Rock, Blues and even Accents of Country & Western and Rhythm & Blues. Add Hebrew Lyrics, which depending on where you reside on Earth can come be quite Exotic and Refreshing in such well Established and Familiar Genre as those mentioned. Track #1. 'LomarEtZePashunt(Say It Simply)', Starts the Show with Solid Acoustic Voices, String Bass, Violin, Piano. Drum Kit and, of course, Ample and Splendid, Male (Hebrew)Vocals. Track #2. 'OhevOta (Love Her)', is Thundering Rock-A-Billy. Piano played Honky Tonk Style, Endless Guitar Harmony backed by String Bass. More Power Vocals mixed with Percussion and End Result is a Slighty Retro Composition. Track #3. 'YeshLiSiba( I Have A Reason)', is a Strong Guitar-Vocal Duet that creates a Smooth, Mellow, Ballad with Subtle C & W overtones. Definitely a Good Whiskey Drinking Song. Track #5. 'Horef(Winter)', Extended Guitar and Drums Extended Intro paves the way for a Hebrew Rock Song Chock Full of Minor Chords; perfect for Night Cruising. Track #7. 'ElKivunLoYadua(Unknown Direction)', is Violin, Guitar and Velvet Vocals. Nuff Said. :D Track #10. 'OneThingBaby', is Classic Rock with Electric Organ, Guitar, String Bass and English Lyrics. Track #12. 'AngelsInWhite', Is ROCK! Electric Guitar Rules with Minor Chord Wails and Howls mixed with Pounding Drum and English--Raspy Voiced Acid Lyrics. The Track simply Rolls on and on. This album, differs, in my opinion, slightly from the 4th Kompozitsia Album in being less Style Diverse otherwise you are still in for a Rockin'Good Time Avi Style. :D

Excellent album

zero-project • Feb 20, 2011

This album is very good, like all the previous ones from "Kompozitsia" series. Interesting, with careful production and inspired style alternation; from robust "Love her" to sentimental "I thank you" (one of my most favorites), it is a wavering trip between beautiful melodies.

Das fehlte noch in der Sammlung...

Bluespfaffe • Feb 11, 2011

I simply love to love music

Carybe • Feb 4, 2011

The motives and reasons that orientate my musical choices, are surely not a linear thing and at times even a mystery to me... I'm simply unable to be faithful to a certain genre or quality pattern... the musical lover inside of me, simply don't accept restrictions and honestly, I don't care... because that irreverent attitude keeps on giving me lots and lots of satisfaction. And satisfaction is what I got here. Satisfaction trough the music itself, as a quality final result and satisfaction, realising that it promotes the collaboration an therefore a union between different nationality musicians and people in general. Despite the fact that the understanding of the language would be most certainly very interesting, this work (and the followings) are an example, an inspiration and a great pleasure.

1st opus of Mister Avi, 3rd i've the opportunity to listen to....this peculiar one reminds me, in most songs, of mister Lloyd COLE: at the crossroads of Folk, Rock, Punk and Pop with melodies near from the rivers of this English singer.... Of course it's Avi's work, but the filiation here is more obvious, at least for me :) very nice job indeed!!

Begin here.. then check out the rest

mihkay • Mar 9, 2011

I've not listened to Avi's albums in chronological order so finally hearing the first one in the series has been a pleasure. I can once again say, whilst being a very talented writer and guitarist he constantly surrounds himself with quality musicians and the production is excellent. This album is an eclectic mix of styles and forms, both modern and traditional. From "Parisian" style jazz to gentle ballads all the way to good old "shit-kicking country", language is no barrier to quality. You can feel this is music from the heart. Even though I for the most part couldn't comprehend a word.... I feel.... :-) I particularly loved track 6 "Ani Mode Lach". Moving with a beautiful flute / string arrangement. Nice one Avi.

Good album

Mawr Gorshin • Mar 9, 2011

Though one has to know Hebrew to understand most of the lyrics to these songs, music is a universal language: there's quite a variety of musical styles and instrumentation to keep the listener interested, so the language barrier shouldn't be a problem.

No Language Barriers in Music!

SouthOMike • Mar 8, 2011

While some songs I couldn't understand the lyrics, the music moved me; that's what counts! Whether sang in Hebrew or English, the bass, drums & guitar have no language barrier! Very well done on production, and the musicians were having fun - that always helps. "OneThingBaby" really caught my ear, though. So I love old sounding rock... Great work, as always, Avi!

Un très bon premier album

bruno karnel • Mar 3, 2011

Positively surprised.

bizun_ • May 25, 2011

De wat? A strange place to find a classic rock album in Israel. But since we are all (and I mean ALL, including the developing countries, through OLPC project) a global village, it is surprising, but not strange. So what's that about? When Avi PM'ed me on Jamendo to have a look into his works, I've moaned something like "oh no, not another Klezmer band" as all the dreydlekhim and krethkim lately became a bit over-popular within jazz musicians in Europe and Klezmer ensembles spawned out of nowhere in overwhelming number and spread through all the clubs with live music, making it almost impossible to hear a genuine blues/jazz jam in Warsaw. BUT -- first few seconds of the album made all my worries away. A genuine rock, blues and jazz. Sometimes interleaved with slight eastern-Mediterranean (Levant is the right term?) motives, just to spice things up, sung sometimes in English, but mostly in modern Hebrew. A hamburger, but with olives and sumac spice: Seems strange at first glance, but tastes surprisingly good, and You want more. Vocals are a bit thin, but compositions and arranges together with lyrics, not to mention instrument skills are pure art. And what I admire, are the organisational skills of the composer and producer: some pieces involve up eleven persons to record (not counting the one at the console). Yes, most of the album is done by overdubbing, but I'm pretty sure, they could assemble to give a concert. If not -- then I'm pretty sure, that Avi and Enrico alone could entertain public for whole night at Clob Rock at Racławicka street in Warsaw. My favourites? Yesh Li Shiba and Horef, but that does not say, the other tracks are any worse. Eight stars [++++++++--].

Once again music overcomes language barriers.

mihkay • Sep 18, 2010

I found this album a neat collection of styles. An eclectic mix. The instrumental technique and feel was of a high standard throughout. The Barn dance feel of track two had my feet tapping, while the Deep Purple head banging of track 3 was a joy. Track 4 returns to what sounds to me, the style that the artist is more comfortable with (I may be wrong) Singing in his native language allows a more "truthful" soulful style of vocal to emerge. I love the melodic and harmonic work on this track. The strings arrangement work is beautiful. And then, just when I was settling into a J.J Cale mellow mood another rocker came through. While this album is American Blues influenced, but who isn't (myself included), to my ear the best tracks were the ones that were more locally sourced. But altogether the playing and production was excellent. Finally.... Love the album artwork.

Wow.. a wonderful expression of music, vocals and life in general,on this blissful, compelling, thought provoking, magical, entertaining, joyous, visions of sweet, captivating, inspirational, happy, heartfelt, arousing, assemblage of tracks. That where divine, passionate and most sincere. And made my foot tap..And put a massive smile on my face as well. As I simply, lapped up this feast of fun,and frivolity.Let alone upbeat, catchy, tuneful melodies and songs. With great infectious voice as well that sang his heart and soul. Out to me the listener...

Lightening Strikes!

RangerSeriesBlack • Sep 6, 2010

An expression often heard in English is: 'lightening never strikes the same place twice'. In truth that is a myth and in the world of music, Kompozitsia II, proves it also a myth. Avi Rosenfeld's first in a Two Album Set{Kompozitsia II & Kompozitsia III} absolutely hits the bull's eye with a sonic tapestry that is subtle and dynamic; gentle yet powerful and literally weaves a World Of Sound in its contents Prepare to be entranced by overtones of Appalachia found in Track #4. HiKolKachYafa, with it's intro of Hammer Dulcimer, violin and acoustic guitar which occasionally duets with flute that gives the song a distinct Accent of the Middle East. Track #3. The Guilt, highlights Rosenfeld's command of English(lyrics) while accompanied by hard driving Electric Guitar that howls Banshee-like and ends in a solo riff Jimmy Hendrick's would be had pressed to better. Other tracks include everything from the otherworldly Australian didgeridoo to a haunting, Hebrew melody found in Track #11. KshetlaOrotKa which in turn contrasts nicely with the very sultry, New Orlean's style blues influenced Track #9. KochavVeLayla. Close your eyes and you will smell the Bourbon and feel the heat. Track #2. TsiporimSharot's, Blue-Grass instrumentation is an authentic as any found in, W. Virginia or Kentucky mountain community. If you genuinely love music and appreciate a heartfelt performance this album is a must for your collection.

Awesome

Zach Eaton • Oct 12, 2010

From the very first song, you can tell this is a well thought out and put together album. I loved the rhythm -- the drums play in 4/4 time while the guitars play in a polyrhythm against it. Who doesn't love polyrhythms? Haha! I also loved the unusual sounding harmony voices over the main voice. I guess that's part of the Hebrew voice, but I loved hearing something new in the piece yet again. (The second song reminds me of an Arabic song made by the Soggy Bottom Boys...now THAT'S an interesting mix) Again, there's good contrast throughout the album (like the string heavy 4th song), but one thing I thought was odd was the inclusion of an English track in number 3. It was kind of jarring to hear that familiar language after the Hebrew, but I think I understand why they did that -- probably to remind us that the words being spoken do, in fact, definitely have meaning. We just have no idea what it is! All-in-all, I loved this unique album. Thanks so much for sharing with us! =D [As for the fourth one -- I can't understand the language, obviously, but what it makes me think of, is standing in a field and missing someone far away from you who you hold dear...That's just what it made me feel, but I'm probably off the mark, haha...]

Good album

"Kompozitisa III" still remains my favorite album, however, "Kompozitsia II" is also very good, carefully made collection of songs, traveling the listener to an optimistic view of life through beautiful melodies. Thank you for offering this album to us.

Very enjoyable album

Forget_me • Sep 4, 2010

I liked this album! It's some kind of classic rock or country. All songs are pretty much good to listen but a little too much repetitive in the principal basic sound: I prefer the Kompo 3 much more, cause it's very original and variable! In any case, this album has great guitars and it's pleasant to listen into a romantic and calm club with sofas in the center of the city ;) .

Muy bueno

Gaby Cardoso • Aug 17, 2010

´´Still I Wanted So Much´´ me gustó y ´´The Guilt´´ un tanto punk me gustó mucho con las dos voces principales.

Awesome- Creative and Full of Feeling

I just can hardly believe I'm hearing music out of Israel! I feel like I am right here in the US, in some midwest local club. We used to go to a place in Ypsilanti, MI called "The Tap Room" that this act would fit right in at. The track, HiKolKachYafa is my favorite on this album. It is both beautiful and romantic. I look forward to hearing more of this band.

Leave nothing to be desire !

The beautiful cover makes me feel warm. It's colorful and agile as your music. This is absolutely a perfect combination of the vocal and guitar. When I listen to this album, I am attracted by your voice , which is gentle but full of power. In brief, this is a really really goooooooooooooooood album. I recommend it to everyone !!! p.s I love "HiKolKachYafa" the best. not only the emotional vocal part but also the sound of flutes and guitars You did a good job! Thanks for giving me such a wonderful experience!

Extra !

bruno karnel • Aug 23, 2010

Good album

bizun_ • Mar 2, 2012

[just a note: Everything I've wrote within review of album Kompositsia I applies to allKompositsia series, so for overall characteristics refer there. I tend to think of Kompositsialike it was one multi-disk album.] This is second record by Avi, and the first I've ever heard. Starts with didgeridoo solo, but is compilation of classic rock/blues tunes, witho one or two references to country style and two great ballads (track #4 and #11) which touch the pure art form nearing craftsmanship of performers such as Bulat Okujava and Rolph McTell. As before, sung in modern Hebrew with slight excursion into English. And again -- not just sound wallpaper. A classic rock album, surfing over all styles and genres. I inly pity myself, I'm not familiar (not a bit) in the language used. As Avi wrote in response to my previous comment, he likes to sing his songs, and it can be heard -- must have been fun to record this album. Eigt stars [++++++--]

I am really REALLY enjoying this album!!! And I've only gotten as far as HayaLanuTov. What a beautiful song this one is!!! I love the banjo, and so it was a wonderful pleasant surprise. So I cannot comment on the whole album yet, but from what I hear so far, Avi is a great musician, and keeping the classic rock alive. I find it very hard to not be swaying and dancing in my seat as i write this. The harmony, the harmonica, snd lead guitar are awesome in YamimShelHor...what i am listening to now. So please, take the time to listen to this great music! I promise you won't be diaspointed...he is really great! :) well, i just had to come back and add some more. one of the things that makes this album so interesting is the diversity of style and each one the intruments using is perfect. i wish i was better at writing reviews.i feel like i cannot express enough that this artist deserves. only one lat thing, is i wish i could understand Hebrew, especially in the mellower songs. However, there is so much sensitivity and emotion in the music and the voice, that literal translation isn't really necessary, now that i think about it. Thanks for writing me Avi, and giving me the link to your music!!!!

Someone did their homework = A+

My yamika's off to the writer/s of this beautiful album. The right instrument at the right time, the right blend and mix, it all comes together with a group of highly talented artists. Special Kudos to the guitar player. Not to forget I thought their timing is impeccable.A very polished bit of work. Now my minor critique. I felt that # 5 KoLEchadVE should be saved for another album. It didn't quite fit here. I would also get a professional singer to top off your ensemble, you are at the doorstep to a higher level, make the best of you're presentation. Good luck

I love to hear lyrical music being sung in other languages -- sometimes lyrics can actually get in the way of just letting you become one with the music, as you're too busy trying to understand what's being said than paying attention to what the music is saying. Hebrew is a language I'll surely never understand, so that's certainly not an issue here xD There's a nice variety here -- the first one was more mellow and solemn, while the second one is a little more exciting and carefree sounding, and this kind of trend goes through the whole album, so you're never bored ^_^ (I rather liked the 5th one myself -- a country beat fused with a Spanish flair and Hebrew lyrics is just a wonderfully surreal experience). Very good work! You all should be very proud =D

Wonderfully Varied Rock Based Styles

m_masters • Aug 10, 2010

"KetsevMitgaber" Good, fast paced percussion with nice bongo work which I thought worked well with the guitar. Some good guitar riffs with a standard keyboard background including a good piano solo and ok vocals. "YamimShelHoref" Quite a basic Rock backdrop with little really new. Vocals were ok but seemed a little restrained. However, the electric guitar did perform very good solos. "KolEchadVe" I got a little feel of Rock from what sounded more of a traditional Hebrew piece. The mix was very well done. I enjoyed the jaunty, bouncy rhythm with percussion and soft bass, thought this also went well with the brass. "HaDeaShelHaAdam" Nice soft piece with good precise, effective and soulful vocals. The slow pace was well executed with instruments adding to the slow soft flavor. Great input from the guitars and keyboards. My favorite so far. "Boee" Good firm and unmistakable Rock, with the percussion and guitar riff setting the style. Great form and style with good vocals punctuating the mood and theme. Good on the ears and feet. That guitar was there again adding some spice to the meal with great solos. "EtmolBaLayla" Nice soft keyboard with a slightly heavy and too forceful percussion. The acoustic guitar solos were a very nice touch with added to the softness of piece. "Or" Nice bouncy rhythm with good guitar work complimented by keyboard and percussion. "Manginat HaGalim" Liked the sound combination, particularly percussion and guitars. Had a nice mid paced flow with a good change to a much slower and relaxed feel at the end of the piece. "ObsessioninBlue" Good strong start with a cool electric guitar background. There was a good spread of sound though it seemed that the drums and guitar were competing in some sort of competition. Good soft guitar work towards the end of the piece which led the drums back to round things up. Vocals were generally good, though I thought sometimes appeared to lack feeling. Some of the mixes didn't work for me, and I did find the percussion in "EtmolBaLayla" a bit harder than the general softness of the piece. Now with that out of the way, I must admit to been surprises that an album of this size could contain such quality. The Rock based styles were wonderfully varied and the instruments played very well. The guitars were simply wonderful. The variety and mingling of genres was quite good and I generally enjoyed the styles. Great musical experience and possibly a good album to listen to while, maybe awaiting examination results if you are a student. If you are not a student, have a listen to the album and I'm sure you'll find the appropriate situation.

Bel album !

Bravo !

Music is humorous, moderately frenzy and happy, not revolutionary (and sometimes even a little too much "dejavu") but played with great passion.

Music is a wonderful thing.

It's created from the emotions of some and ends up being the emotions of others. That's why it is of primordial importance in getting people together and reinforcing the bows that undeniably unite us all. This is a quality eclectic musical work that combines several music styles and rhythms with a language I was not used to hear in some of those music styles. Now that I just overcome the initial surprise, I have to say that (even not understanding the language), it's a pleasure listening to this album.

Refreshing styles from Israel !!!

I love "EtmolBaLayla" (what does it mean in English...) A little sense of lonesome... It seems that I can see the scene through the songs. By the way, guitar's sound is nice, too. I prefer soft music, and I think this part is great. But the part of rock lacks impressive rhythms. (my small opinion...) Maybe add more light and clear notes, such as piano or flute, would be better. But this album is still a well-done work.

One of the Most Versatile and Talented Artists You've Never Heard Of

RangerSeriesBlack • Sep 6, 2010

Kompozitisa III, in brief is a Hit! Avi Rosenfeld, very likely is an unsung musical hero as he has presented an extraordinary compilation of Classic Rock fused with occasional Country & Western overtones, and hints of 70s Soul intertwined with Hebrew lyrics in an eminently playable album, yet you, probably, have never heard of him. Contrary to what you may read elsewhere there is not a single misplaced track and every song is a delight. In the interest of time I will limit commentary to a couple of specific tracks. Track #2. KetseMitgaber is a dynamic mix of lyrics interspersed wailing electric guitar, 70s sounding electric organ that have dueling solos throughout the song and capped by sparkling piano solo. Track #6.HaDeaShelHaAd, The twang of steel guitar gives an instant C & W feeling to song along with a slow flowing ballad style lyrics and fans of Canadian Actor/Musician Paul Gross(Due South)may hear a similarity to the style and rhythm of his Alberta, Canada fashion of County & Western but no imitation. Check out Avi's music. You will be glad you did.

This album is very interesting but i must say that it doesn't sound really like an "old classic rock" album. There is something really genuine about this music. I also agree with SOUTHOMIKE for saying that there is some of Santana shades. You really play the guitar as well as he does(thats a compliment of course). The only thing that I personally don't like very much is that the lyrics are in Hebrew and I don't understand a word.A translation is needed so that we can appreciate everything about this album.

Very good album

Outstanding, Perfect, Folk/Rock . . . Gorgeous Voice and Guitars!

orangeupurple • Aug 7, 2010

Oh this is an excellent album and some very nice folk/rock . . . rather sweet with music so laid back it is peaceful . . . and the album cover is really beautiful and eye catching .. . As I listen to "HaDeaShelHaAdam" I am impressed with the gentle sound of the guitars and the wonderful voice of the singer. He is very good and nicely mellow with a strength that shows that he can carry a tune and has an appealing compassionate sound. This particular song sounded more like a folk song . . . very attractive with the beautiful instrumentals added and I especially loved that flute. "Boee" was fully a rock song with a flavor from the 70's and it featured some hot guitar playing and singing. Whereas, "EtmolBaLayla" had some sweet singing guitars and the laid back attitude of some ambient styles. Although I don't understand the language, "Or" sounded a bit like a rock/ballad . . . beautiful. Over all I believe that this group is one to watch. These compositions are excellent and appealing through more than one genre or style of music. This is the perfect album to play for a nice listen in the evening with family activities, on a drive or a party. Even if the language is a barrier to fully understand these songs . . . it is such a wonderful listen, so many nuances and creativity to the music that you feel as if you understand. This album is so very worth listening to and I am watching this musician. Beautiful! edit: I also had to download this album . . . its too good!

Good album

Very interesting album: features smart, fast, swinging rocks, and peaceful ballads. I foresee a good position for some of the songs in the Top 100 tracks. Pity i can't understand the lyrics in Hebrew.

Good album

This is a pretty good album, to say the least. It has a clean sound; some people get that funky-techno thing going on that you couldn't, reasonably, translate into a live performance, but I could see you and your band performing in front of a live audience. It sounds real, you could say- no dishonesty here. Also, I like the album art. It's a modest, colorful piece, just like the music comes off to me. The only issue I had was the language. If I understood what was being said, I'm sure I would appreciate the music more than I already do. If it's not too much trouble, could you perhaps send me the English lyrics for a few of the songs in a message? I would really appreciate a better understanding of some of these songs.

Awesome

Great instrument & vocal.

wirarama • Aug 8, 2010

Like all instrument on this music. Everything is very natural. Like the acoustic guitar, leading electric guitar, organ, piano, bass and drum. This music is perfect both on down tempo & up tempo. & vocal is very dynamic, its sound mellow on slow song & very energic on up tempo song. I think is a classic rock with combination of ethnic and jazz. Very nice music. Good for every momment, sad or happy.

Awesome- Exotic and Original

Well, this album was just a joy for an eclectic American like me. I can SO picture sitting in some little pup in Old City Jerusalem drinking...whatever it is they drink there, and enjoying this local act. Not only are the lyrics in Hebrew, but there is plenty of variety in the instrumentation. From acoustic guitar, to rockin electric, to banjo, and even brass in a kind of ska with a Jewish flair. Wonderful!

This album is full of colours. It's all said in previous comments. This album will be my co-driver on my next car rides. I love your music - awesome production!

I usualy don't like rock music but I must say this is great discovery in music. This is not just rock we can hear on TV this is so much more. I like emotions and ambient of music when I listened this album. It's almost perfect.

Wonderful Variety of Awesome!

SelkieSong • Oct 10, 2010

Wonderful collage of varying musical styles made even more interesting by the use of a wide variety of instruments played skillfully with great enthusiasm. Very nice vocals.Very nice guitar and keyboard solos. Very nice positive energy. I like very much the care you have given to your album descriptions and your album artwork is truly lovely. I know no Hebrew but that in no way interfered with my enjoyment of your music. Your music speaks for itself. Well done

Very enjoyable

I'm not a great fan of rock music, but this album is definitely good. Nice music, quite dynamic, good choice of instruments. What is also admirable is that all songs are quite different, which is seldom to be found in rock music albums. And I've always liked how Hebrew sounds.

Hebrew Pop/Rock/Country

SouthOMike • Aug 8, 2010

Thanks to Avi for the recommendation An eclectic collage of musical styles, and all in Hebrew! Heard shades of Santana, a bit of John Denver and a little touch of countless other `70's acts! I must say I enjoy hearing what other countries listen to, and if this is what you are playing in your city, your band must be well recived! A nice polish to your works, well done Avi, well done. Awaiting the next release!

Talented

This is a really great album. The only thing that didn't work on me was the language. The voice is fine, the music is awesome, but I just don't understand the lyrics. Do an English version and it will take off everywhere!

Excelente!

Good album

[just a note: Everything I've wrote within review of album Kompositsia I applies to allKompositsia series, so for overall characteristics refer there. I tend to think of Kompositsialike it was one multi-disk album.] The third album in series. More energetic and more of classic genre setting than the previous one. Yet again we have here elaborate, carefully layered arranges, pushing uses of instruments not always found in blues bands, which finds its culmination in the final tune, Obsession in blue -- great excursion into progressive rock, an instrumental overture that made me almost cry the first time, I've heard it. Almost impossible thing achieved: so massive, and yet seeming lightweight with all that "garage band" feeling. Not that I liked other tunes any less, the album is nice to listen (though my wife can't stand Avi's voice, yet taste is not disputable). Again, eight starts [++++++--], it must be great to hear them in concert.

Rocking me

sightsFJ • Aug 9, 2010

with a strong potential to be replaid several times. It's got sure thing class - but it's too fresh to put it into the box written on: 'classic rock'. Maybe I get it wrong, but this classic rock thang is more an institutionalizing of sthg that's more alive without 'classic' What I am doing?? I listen to it and it's worthwhile - although I don#t understand a word.
